We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal
2.0

Felt contradictory. Like there would be a stated rule or circumstance and then an immediate, random "but wait!" where it changed for some reason that didn't feel validated but more a way to move the plot along through structured tropes or bait for the readers. While still written with beautiful phrases and wording throughout, it lacked the compelling storyline and earned surprises of the first book. Any character growth felt artificial and underdeveloped. I wanted to know what happened, but from chapter 1 it felt very much like a chore, and I rarely felt engaged in the reading experience.
