I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

dark emotional reflective fast-paced

5.0

Ugh this was a great book and I’m so glad Jennette was able to start a positive healing journey from her trauma. I love how she wrote this book, from both the perspective of her younger self under her mother’s thumb and of an adult who’s experienced so much looking back on her experiences with a powerful but comedic note. Pursuing writing was definitely the right decision for her because she’s amazing at it. Reading this has also shifted iCarly into a new light to me, and how much was going on behind the scenes while she played this character she felt so detached from. Child actors always get defined by their most major role, and it’s great to see her rise above the path her mother chose for her and forge a new way of thinking and a new way of life.
