Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters, Jane Austen

I'm not entirely sure what just happened. I spoiled myself by reading "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" first, I think. But, I could read P&P&Z without feeling like I was in an alternate universe. I sometimes had a hard time concentrating on the book because I was trying so hard to imagine the fantastical universe created by the author. Everything, and I mean everything, about the day to day life of the characters was so far removed from anything that happened in the original novel, that the characters names and the plot lines were the only thing to survive the rewrite. And, without giving away any spoilers, I was quite unhappy with a death I'm pretty sure occurred in the last few pages. Although it was never said directly that the death really did happen. I'm a bit confused.
