Doctor Who: Time Lord Fairy Tales by Justin Richards, David Wardle

3.0

Probably more like 3.5 stars, this a very cute set of stories. Some seem somewhat original, though perhaps I just don't know the original. Most, however, are retellings of classic fairy tales. Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, the Pied Piper of Hammelin, Cinderella. Mostly Grimm fairy tales, from my recollection. It's actually well written. Some you can skate by without having seen the show, but about half of them hinge heavily on knowing a decent bit about Doctor Who - which is completely logical, considering it is, in fact, a BBC Doctor Who book. Still, I found my favorite stories were the ones in which the Doctor did not appear.

A very cute book. I rather liked the mock woodblock prints in each story. Ultimately, I've decided not to keep the book as I don't think I'm likely to reread it, but I'd happily recommend this as a fun read to others. I think it would be appropriate to read with mature elementary schoolers as bedtime stories.
