The Boyfriend
by Freida McFadden
2.5 stars.
This was nothing groundbreaking, but it was a good listen to achieve the Goodreads challenge that's active.
I really enjoyed the first couple Freidas that I read but I feel like now every time I read one I can predict what's going to happen (mostly). The twist at the end of this one was interesting and a bit unexpected, but it did not redeem the insufferable FMC that I had to deal with for the 90% of the book before that.
Freida has a really strange skill for writing idiot women. She has nailed the pick-me, annoying, stupid girl trope. Maybe she had a really annoying friend in the past or something and is just continually dunking on her passively by writing her characters this way.
I don't think I will be chomping at the bit to read another Freida unless I hear that she breaks the mold.
