This really should have been a DNF, not sure why I persevered as I found the writing style really hard going and difficult to follow.
Peter and Ivan are too Irish brothers, approximately 10 years apart in age and with very different lives. One is a successful lawyer who drinks and takes drugs and has an unsympathetic relationship with women. The other is a misunderstood professional chess player who has lived a sheltered life.
When their father dies they find themselves reacting in different ways, Peter's behaviour spirals and he is vascillating between two very different women; Ivan seems to find himself and begins a relationship with an older woman.
They were both unlikeable, and I couldn't relate to them, and I found the lack of paragraphs and speech marks very draining - not my thing
