If I Had Your Face by Frances Cha
4.0

Loved this book. 4.5/5 stars.

Both fascinating and at times shocking (horrifying?), this was a deeply interesting look at Korean womanhood today. I have a limited understanding of this culture, and this book examines the complicated friendships, social hierarchies, cultural norms, and family life of five 20- and 30-something women in Seoul. The writing is beautiful and I stopped numerous times to consult Google on topics/phrases/types of food mentioned, which I could’ve just skimmed past, but taking the time to slow down really enriched the reading experience.

Read on the recommendation of the Bad on Paper podcast - it’s the Feb 2021 book club pick.
