The Rosewater Insurrection by Tade Thompson

5.0

The Rosewater Insurrection is the second part of trilogy, and you really do need to start at the beginning to get the most out of this.

Where Rosewater concentrated on the sensitive Kaaro, Insurrection is mostly about his partner and government agent Aminat. However, there are chapters from other points of view, notably Jack Jacques, mayor of Rosewater and instigator of the titular Insurrection as he starts a war by declaring the state independent from Nigeria. But Wormwood is ailing, and if the alien dies so will Rosewater.

Tade Thompson has built a chaotic, messy and intriguing world with exciting fast-paced action and fabulous characters, not all of whom are likeable but every one of them is fascinating. I'm looking forward to the third instalment already.
