Like Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games this book took me a little while to get into, but once I was in I was hooked. Like Collin's book, it's a fast paced adventure featuring a strong heroine. However, Cashore also incorporates a slightly more graphic romance and political intrigue. At times these feel a little forced, particularly the romance, but the characters are likable enough for it not to be an issue.
