This was so brilliant and deeply engrossing.
The characters were so deeply human and their relationships to each other natural. The style of writing switching between narrative and script was so clever and gave us dramatic pauses and awkwardness and gah it was perfect.
The conceit of the book is a group of actors performing Hamlet in the West Bank, but it seamlessly moves through familial legacies and cultural conflict, the pressure of existing in an occupied state and real fears that make you feel like you’re living alongside these people.
AND THE ENDING MADE THE HAIR ON THE BACK OF MY NECK STAD UP AND GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS AND A CHILL AND SAY HOLY SHIT OUT LOUD.
Incredible book with such a captivating and natural rhythm. I love it so much.
