Y’all, this book was perfection. No notes. Five stars.
It’s hard to review a sequel without spoiling the first two books, but I will do my darndest.
I love this series so much! As a person with mostly negative feelings toward organized religion, Hannah Whitten’s work always speaks to me. Her ability to show the good that people can take away from their beliefs, even when the institution is broken, is so amazing. In a world full of violence perpetrated in the name of religion, there has to be a way for people to get better, and thus better the world. This book is a love letter to wanting to get better, and wanting to make the world better, and wanting to atone for past harms.
Lore, Gabe, Bastian, and her entire support system are such a wonderful cast of characters. They have real wants, and real fears, and they care so deeply in such different, unique ways. I loved reading about them, and seeing even more of them in this book.
This series is a soul series for me - a trilogy that speaks to me in ways I can’t fully describe. I highlighted so many quotes, and will absolutely be coming back to this series when I need to feel a lot of big feelings.
