I picked up The Hobbit out of curiosity—I've always wanted to read J.R.R. Tolkien but never felt quite ready. In the end, it turned out to be an enjoyable and easy read, though it didn’t completely win me over.
The story follows Bilbo Baggins, a quiet hobbit who ends up on an unexpected adventure. Along the way, he meets trolls, goblins, Elves, and the mysterious Gollum. Each chapter brings a new part of the journey, making it feel like a fun, fairy-tale-like adventure.
I really liked the light, playful tone of the book. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and there are lots of small breaks in the action—songs, quiet moments, and reflections—that give it a cozy feeling.
Still, I didn’t find the story very emotionally engaging. The pacing felt a bit like a string of separate episodes, and the characters—except for Bilbo—didn’t leave a strong impression on me.
The Hobbit is a sweet, classic fantasy that works well for relaxed reading. It didn’t fully draw me in, but I can see why so many people love it. If you're looking for a gentle, nostalgic story, it’s worth a try. But if you're after deeper characters or more emotional weight, it might not quite deliver.
