Incendiary in a Kilt by Anna Durand

5.0

'The fun has truly begun with Errol at the helm! This barmy Scot is an adventure all his own! And I loved every second of his antics!' -TheBritishBibliophile

Thank you to Anna Durand for sending me an ebook Advanced Readers Copy as part of her ARC Team for me to read and leave an honest review.

What makes a good day into a great week? That's right, an Anna Durand novel. And what better way to turn that great week into a great month, than with a brand new read to kickstart said month off? I can think of no better way, especially when it's one of Anna's books that's doing it.

Incendiary in a Kilt is the latest in the long line of novels in Anna's 'Hot Scots' series, turning to this time Errol Murdoch, and Ashley Hartman, his American lass who not this time invites trouble in her wake as she inserts herself into his life, but adventure. And we know from Relentless in a Kilt just how much Errol loves adventure and all that comes with it.

This time, however, persuasion is key.

Ashley wastes no time in getting down and dirty to ensure that Errol is on board for the adventure she wishes to take him on (sssh, no spoilers!). Before those adventures can even begin, we're in for a treat of a story before the real story. Makes me want to visit a Scottish castle in the hopes of something happening. Once you read this book, you'll know EXACTLY what I mean. I might or might not have read that part a few times before moving on *wink wink*, Anna knows how to write 'those' scenes just the way I love to read them. Steamy with an added extra drop of shteaammm.

Stepping aside from the steam, let's look at said people who are and will be, creating it. As I've mentioned, we were already previously introduced to Errol in the previous Hot Scots book, Relentless in a Kilt, where he was picked up to go along with Magnus and Piper for a while on their adventure. I said in my review for that novel that I couldn't wait to read Errol's own story--as he came across as a hoot of a guy--and I'm really glad to have waited and read Incendiary in a Kilt. Errol was worth the wait and proved to be the guy I first read about previously, only times ten and twice as madly unleashed than he has ever been before and I hand on heart can say that I lived and loved every moment that was the madness that was Errol Murdoch. Ashley is the one we haven't met before and were getting to know for the first time.

If you've read any of Anna's books before that features any of the American Wives Club ladies, you'll know how she writes her American leading ladies and will no doubt spot similar traits and personality quirks. Ashley would blend flawlessly with the AWC, but also stands out in this book as her own individual, adventurous, badass, determined woman. She can stand out as her own character while being the female equivalent of Errol (minus the many explosions he creates wherever he goes). I loved her nature, her desire to do things for those she loves and for knowing what she wanted to go after no matter how implausible, or how many people told her impossible. Truly a dynamic dame with her mad as a hatter Scot. A perfect pair.

All in all, it was hard to not speed through this book because one did not simply read it, one consumed it. I had to force myself to slow down to read and savour it, and I still finished it within 24 hours. Anna knows how to write what she loves and what she knows her readers will love, too.

I highly recommend that this novel should be picked up at the earliest opportunity. Not only because you all--like me--can't get enough Anna Durand in your lives, but because your time spent on her and this story she's brilliantly crafted, will add another must read novel to your list (if not a top read of 2022).

Five stars!
