I feel like I went into this with VERY different expectations. Especially having read (and loved!) Fluids, this is so completely different than her previous work. I loved the weird sapphic fever dream aspect to that one whereas this just felt - boring, honestly. I didn't connect with Angie's character at all, Caro also was mildly annoying to me the whole time, their whole escape schtick was unrealistic and didn't invoke any reactions from me (although I am actually deathly afraid of kidnappings, I usually get scared just reading about it lol). I feel like this book definitely tried to put across a certain moral of 'hey, don't kidnap and kill women' but I didn't feel any substance to it and felt really superficial.
Coming to the romance, again, I didn't feel any of the love they were talking about, maybe it's just my ice cold, black loveless heart lol but Idk. And then Wes coming back and that whole thing was again like duh really are we doing this.
I'm glad the girlies are enjoying the sapphic vibes of this book and I can see why this book of hers is more commercialized and more well received but it's not my taste in books at all.
Bottom line is, in my opinion, if you see the title and cover and imagine tons of body horror and sapphic crude sexuality, this isn't the book for you. This is a lot more straightforward kidnapping and escape horror, with a bunch of repetitive character development monologues.
