Beartown by Fredrik Backman

dark emotional tense medium-paced

This book has some very heavy topics but I think this was one of the best ways I've ever saw them handled. I'm usually extremely wary because often the way people write about them is just.... not good at all because they use them as shock factor and clearly never talked to anyone who went through those things but the way it was written here was very real and in a sensible way. There are entire pages you could quote and want to push them into people's faces so maybe they finally start understanding that the way they think and react is fucked up.
Definitely felt the urge to strangle plenty of characters so many times as it was intended and my heart was breaking for some of the kids and my heart was also breaking for the parents who just wanted to protect their children. The parent-children relationships really messed me up damn.

(Also I'm sooo relieved that my library has the sequel available to read rn so I don't have to wait dbhdbh)
