General Comments: An intoxicating, tightly plotted feast for the senses. Rich world-building constructs a post-unification Kingdom of Italy, set in the 19th Century; the descriptions of food was highly detailed, tantalising tastebuds for Italian. Labelled as a ‘Historical Fiction’; the language and prose failed to meet the suggested 19th Century vibe, as the writing was very colloquial and modern – thus, the plot suffered.

Favourite Quote: ‘Love is the most powerful magic. Above all else, remember that. It will always guide you where you need to go.’
