No hate to the author, I just don’t think this book is for me. If you’re really interested in archaeology, King Arthur, the Holy Grail and all that, I think you would like this but me personally, I couldn’t care less. I’m not a big history buff. I can’t do books with long chapters, my attention span drifts so badly. Also, I felt it was kind of repetitive at times. It was all about that “leap of faith”. Yeah, I know it’s like the main message,I guess but I don’t need to read it a million times. I got it the first time.
The characters weren’t bad. I just couldn’t find the interest when they started having long conversations about archaeology and stuff. Blane seemed cool until he started talking religion-y stuff like everything about his religion was the truth and everyone else was wrong. At least, that’s how I interpreted it, idk I could be wrong.
Also, another thing I hated was how I couldn’t tell if Carly’s grandma and LK were partners in the romantic sense or partners on their archaeology dig, or both. Like, it was very unclear. The amount of times that “Lyle and her partner” “her partner” was said but I didn’t really understand in what sense. Here’s LK talking about her:
“She was my role models and partner— and best friend. I trusted her with my life—…”
Now, idk about you but this doesn’t scream platonic partners. And I swear there was a point where she called her “her everything.” I get super close friends but this is different. I DONT KNOW. That’s the thing, it needed to be written better or implied in a different way if they actually were lovers. To this day, I still have no idea. It’s like the topic of it is skipped over or like irrelevant.
