Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman

3.0

Well that took entirely too long to read.

What's it about? The Antichrist's birth brings into motion the end of the world where the Horsemen ride and Heaven and Hell can finally start their victorious battle at the demise on mankind. However, demon, Crowley, and angel, Aziraphel, do not want humanity to end, so they take up the task of stopping the end of the world.

What I thought? I started this book quite a while ago. Was it November or even earlier? I'm not quite sure. The beginning was slow for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Horsemen. The middle was a sprint. The ending was a marathon.

Pacing issues aside, I really enjoyed the premise and development of the plot and characters. However, I didn't care for a certain plot point (cough, cough, aliens). It was not my cup of tea. Also, the end had a great climax that grew even bigger only to be quickly snuffed out without much explanation. That can be quite frustrating for a reader, but with more reflection (even in writing this now) I think I understand it.

This book would have been more enjoyable if I read through it more quickly, a fact I will consider next time I buddy read with people just as busy as myself (possibly even busier). Lesson learned.

Don't get me wrong. I liked this book. I just wanted more from it.

In short: I liked it, but I need to be more selective with buddy-read books to read things more quickly so I can enjoy it more.
