I know I'm late to the party but I'm so happy I could finally read this book.
Legends & Lattes is the cosy fantasy you never know you needed. At least I didn't k ow I needed this book. I've wondered away from high fantasy to read more sweet and uplifting books, and I am so glad that I can read a cosy and sweet book that brings me back to fantasy now.
Viv is an orc adventurer who had enough of fights and battles. So she decides to open up a café in a city where no one knows what coffee is. With the help of a magical stone and some wonderful new friends, she ventures into business with resounding success. Until of course some trouble arises.
I love this book with all my heart. It's wonderful and sweet and heartwarming. I just lost myself in the easy storytelling and everyday troubles Viv faced.
She's such a lovable main character. And her journey is admirable. After fighting way too many bottles, she decides to start over in peace, opening a café. If that's not the most wholesome thing, I don't know what is.
The set of characters that form her little group are adding these layers of warmth with their own stories. Kandri, the succubus who doesn't want to be only what other's thin of her. Cal, the grumpy contractor hob who helps Viv realize all her dreams. Thimble, the shy rattkin, who is the most amazing baker in town. Hem, the awkward scholar. Amity, the unexpectedly unique dire-cat. Pendry, the bard who has anxiety.
All these wonderful characters come together, and for this lively, ragtag found family. All of them are a little different, yet they found a place to belong in the coffee shop.
And I think that's the message of the book. You can rely on magic for luck, but the people who stick with you the whole way are the ones who will stand by you no matter what. And you don't need magic to keep them around. All you need to do is care.
I absolutely adore this book and the cosy fantasy genre now. I am ready for more.
