Memoirs from the Women's Prison by Nawal El Saadawi

4.25

The writing is among some of the most evocative I have read in a long time. Emotionally, El Sadaawi places you in the cell with her through capturing the mundanity of prison and the people around her, which makes the cruelty and injustice all the more harrowing.
The translation is also highly commendable.
