Black Widow, Vol. 1: The Finely Woven Thread by Nathan Edmondson

3.0

Ugh. I need more. D:

The artwork for this collection of volumes is breathtaking and beautiful. I don't want to say Phil Noto is a magician because the amount of hard work that has gone into this collection is evident but oh my word the man knows how to pull off some magic. The tonality of the panels, the details, Natasha's red, red, hair it's all so well-polished.

The writing I found a touch clumsy at times but I enjoyed Natasha's character a lot. Maria Hill, Assistant Director for S.H.I.E.L.D makes an appearance and I really appreciated seeing so many female characters in this comic. I love Ramonoff's sassy quips about the rest of the Avengers, New York as a whole and her quite, more vulnerable meditations on what it means to be a hired killer.

As long as Phil Noto does the artwork, I will be a firm fan of the series. If you like Matt Fraction's Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon, please check out this series too.
