The Proof of My Innocence by Jonathan Coe

Smartly written, had its ups and downs (liked less the Brian part).
Fun sectioning of the novel as per Rachida and Phyl’s explained book genres : cozy British murder mystery, dark academia, auto-fiction.
On the history and current rise of extreme conservatism in England (obsession with purity and anger, Liz Truss) ; on intergenerational divides ; on the attempts to defund and privatize the NHS ; on the function of fiction as a genre (books, Friends) and the subjectity of truth.
More about the topics than the actual characters or mystery plot for me (I guessed it about halfway through).
