The Secret Runners of New York by Matthew Reilly

5.0

Okay, I am a fan of this guy and even if he published his grocery list, i'd give it a five star. That said, Secret Runners of New York is not a bad book. There are many good things about the book, the issue lies only with me because I could not relate to the rich-student-in-rich-school vibe that runs through the first half of the book. The underlying mystery is great. The execution of all the surprise points is amazing. There are small hints and clues strewn through the book. Things that become relevant as you keep reading. So, all is good and well, but man, the first half with the high-school politics and scheming was tough to read through. But once shit hits the fan, Reilly ticks all the points on the bullet list of what makes a good story.

I just wish he had taken out the first half and written more of the second half.

So, dear reader, if you pick this book and find yourself getting frustrated with the first half of the book, don't give up! The book gets REALLY good in the second half. There is blood, violence, horrible death, and heartwarming moments, too. And the book ends really well.

And yes, make sure you read the QnA with the author at the end of the book. That adds a better understanding of why the book lacked in some parts.
