Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
4.0

A lot better than the first book, it unfortunately still had some of the same issues as the first like ill-fitting pictures and cliché scenes. However, the originality besides those in this book makes up for it. My advice to the author would be to stop relying so much on the pictures and write the book as if they weren't there for reader. And perhaps provide some explanation as to who the hell took many of the pictures provided for scenes where no photographer was present. Unfortunately, mistakes he made in the first book cannot be corrected now, such as the lack of any real backstory for every single character besides the main character.
Also, it seems like Riggs forgets what he has written sometimes and contradicts himself literally page to page occasionally. His editors must suck despite how he thanks them ever so much in his acknowledgments. It seems like he doesn't even read back through his own story to check for plot holes and such.
Anyway, of you liked the first book, definitely check this out, as it's not as bad as I am making it sound. Ransom Riggs is definitely a good writer, he just has some kinks he needs to work out of his writing....

*sigh* Time to wait for another sequel.
