Loveless by Alice Oseman

This was a really moving and educational book. I think these kinds of illustrations of what asexuality and aromantic look and feel like are really important and go so much further than just a definition or definitions on the internet. And this book did a nice job showing a number of different queer experiences, as well as just the weird, uncomfortable, and messy experiences people in high school and college can have around sex, dating, alcohol, and other hyper social pressure-y things.

This book does end in a really grounded and happy place, but it is emotional and a bit of a struggle to get there as we go along with Georgia in her discovery and acceptance of who she is... complete with stumbles and bad calls along the way. I also really appreciated the inclusion of Georgia - and to an extent, her cousin - grieving the life she thought she would have. These feels like an important aspect of her journey.

These characters all felt human and very believable as college students. They made bad choices, yes. They also cared deeply, and they didn't always know how to manage their emotions or know the right thing to say. But there was a lot of love here.
