The Party by Natasha Preston
3.0
I went into The Party with high expectations because Natasha Preston’s books are known for their twists and suspense. While it had moments of intrigue, it fell a bit short for me overall.
The story kicks off with a lot of promise - a group of friends, a wild party, and a night that spirals into chaos. Preston’s setup is solid, creating a tense atmosphere where you know something terrible is about to happen. The suspense kept me engaged initially, and I liked how she explored the dynamics of toxic friendships and hidden secrets.
That said, the pacing dragged in the middle, and some of the characters felt underdeveloped. I had a hard time connecting with them, which made it difficult to fully invest in the stakes. The big reveal was unexpected, but it felt rushed, leaving me with unanswered questions and a sense of incompleteness.
Preston’s writing style is easy to follow, and I appreciate how she captures the voice of her teenage characters. However, I wish there had been more depth to the relationships and a stronger build-up to the climax.
Overall, The Party is a quick and entertaining read, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. If you’re a fan of Bodies Bodies Bodies, it’s worth checking out.
The Party - 2.5/5⭐️
