Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich
3.0

Just finished Wicked Appetite, which was a fun read. Evanovich is clearly comfortable with her brand of slapstick paranormal romance. It's a romp of a book, meant to be finished fairly quickly. What prevented it from being thoroughly enjoyable was the lack of dimension of the characters. I wanted Lizzy--main character--to be more than a spectator in the story. She doesn't believe her fate as an Unmentionable so she spends much of the novel picking fights with the guy (Diesel) sent to protect her for no reason other than to be difficult. Diesel takes it into his head early on that he's going to be attracted to Lizzy and spends most of the novel flirting with her without any success. And the bad guy, Wulf, isn't very bad. He's actually kind of tame.
I'm hoping that Evanovich's series gets better as it goes on. The premise is fun--seven deadly sins being collected for ultimate power--but if the characters don't become more than caricatures of her Stephanie Plum characters, I don't see the point in reading more than this book.
