Where the Dark Stands Still is heart wrenchingly beautiful. I don’t even have the words to express how much I loved this book. I cannot express how beautifully written this story is. The descriptions of the forest, certain scenery, and the characters are so detailed. Who doesn’t love a sentient forest full of demons? Or a sentient house with house spirits?
Liska is so easy to feel for. Her reasoning behind agreeing to the Leszy’s bargain was understandable. I think she makes an amazing fmc! The Leszy is such a compelling character. His background was both intriguing and sad. I cannot say much without spoiling it, so I will stop there. Their banter was my favorite, but the two can be tooth achingly sweet. Jaga and Maksio deserve the world <3
This story is heavily influenced by Polish folklore and I loved it! This is the first book that I have read that features this, so it was interesting and new! I know I was probably pronouncing half of the words wrong, but it was still an excellent book! The last few chapters left me with a whirlwind of emotions…this book may never leave my mind. Hope you give this one a chance!
