In her author note Trigiani says this novel is about how we live and what we leave behind when we go. Yep! Soooo good. Worth reading and discussing.

This family saga is told in multiple timelines. First we meet Matelda, aged 77, at the end of her life. Then we learn about life for her family and friends in Italy and Scotland in the 1930s and 1940s. Hard things happen. So do beautiful things. I loved this story - laughing and crying to the end.

Adriana Trigiani writes beautiful places and people. I loved all of the characters. Trigiani honors age and family and faith, without being cliched or trite. I love the wisdom and humor in this novel.

This is my first book by this author. Thankfully I already have two more on my shelf and can dive into another one sooner rather than later. The beauty of family, hope, and love are present in spite of pain and loss. This book illuminates the value of generational living and makes me sad for what we miss without family presence and stories.
