I love Shila and Kai (the two gatekeepers).
*spoilers*
I screamed seeing Shila and Kai without their guard headwear, they look amazing 😗 I love how they are close even though they are complete opposites.
I really like Obi and Zen’s match. I view Obi and Zen as two sides of the same coin. They both care for Shirayuki but how they protect her and how they actually can based on their status is different. Zen wants to protect Shirayuki but there are moments (because he is a prince) where he can’t; so Obi as her bodyguard becomes what Zen wants for her. When Obi asks Zen for the match to go instead of Mitsuide I don’t view it as him only wanting to go for Shirayuki. He goes for Zen. Who is filled with dread because he will be parting from her. Obi wants to prove that he can be depended on, he wants Zen to know that he will protect Shirayuki as if Zen is there. He wants to be the first pick to protect Shirayuki.
Obi essentially being Shirayuki’s anchor during this whole trip to see Prince Raj is probably my favorite thing about this volume.
Prince Izana. 😔 I have a love-hate relationship with that man. He does something to make me mad and then the next minute I’m laughing at what he says…
At the end, Mihaya says Shirayuki is being protected by a knight which is an adorable way of describing Obi. I think of knights as wearing bulky armor but Obi hates anything heavy or tight that restricts movement.
Raj’s staff compliment him pretty well by being so nosey and I think the personalities are so well shown in the story.
After reading this volume I think I can confidently say that I do like Sakaki (Prince Raj’s aide) I don’t like or condone what he helped Raj pull at the beginning of the story. However, he really wants what's best for his prince and his country.
I love that Prince Raj calls Obi Shirayuki’s man 🤭
Comparing the anime and manga:
Obi sleeping in Zen’s room is super cute and shows a closeness that I wasn’t as exposed to when watching the anime.
Zen is mad to see Mihaya in the anime but in the manga, it goes from zero to one hundred real quick. It’s more evident that he holds a grudge when it comes to someone doing something to Shirayuki and how emotional he can be.
Zen tells Marquis Haruka in the anime that he leaves the journey in his hands but in the manga, he says he entrusts Shirayuki with him on the journey. (He’s so down bad and it’s more obvious in the manga, I love it).
I completely forgot Marquis went with Obi and Shirayuki at the beginning of their travels which was just- awkward. But I like how the manga illustrated their travels and Marquis’s strictness at times to help both Obi and Shirayuki.
I like that Shirayuki complements Obi frequently in the manga. Like on the black uniform he wears at Raj’s castle which is not included in the anime. She also acknowledges Obi’s voice change with Prince Raj which I think is so cute. She’s just overall more observant which gives the reader more Obi and Shirayuki content 😊
Prince Raj keeps snapping in the anime which is annoying but funny as it shows his attitude and character well.
Prince Raj gives Shirayuki a pamphlet of locations in his castle but in the anime, he just lists off a bunch of places which I think is better because it shows how well he knows his palace, but maybe using a pamphlet is right for the character because of how oblivious he is-
The way they changed the water into an arrow in the anime was crazy. Raj could have actually died if Obi didn’t save him🧍
In the anime, Raj stepped on a booby trap that triggered a door to block them from going back the way they came but Raj’s sister is the one that triggered it in the manga which I like better. It's interesting how the siblings know about all the booby traps in the underground area and that it is shown more in the anime as they try to stop Obi from catching them.
I liked that the anime showed Obi carrying Prince Raj on his shoulder.
The anime added more to fight scenes which are really fun to watch.
Overall I like a lot of parts from both anime and manga format but again I still like the manga a lot more!
