I picked this book up thinking it was a mystery novel. It is not, it is very much a horror. Yes, there were elements of mystery but it was certainly a supernatural horror, which I had not been expecting at all. It was absolutely terrifying however I did still enjoy it since I felt it was well-written, the characters were loveable and it had a strong concept and execution.
Edit: I definitely enjoyed this a lot more upon reread, probably because I knew what I was getting myself in for this time around. I still definitely felt scared reading this book, but not nearly as much as I did the first time around, so the writing was definitely good enough to create a creepy atmosphere since I knew exactly what happened on this read.
