Favorite book of the year by far, may be one of my favorite books I have ever read. Set in rural Virginia in Appalachian country the story is told as a refection on a boys early childhood and ends in early adulthood. The author captures the life in Appalachia very well. The story is beautifully told and while pretty sad and depressing at times, it is told by the main character who doesn't know anything else. This point of view really in my opinion relays to readers that have no experience with the area of "why people stay" or "why do the people there experience what that do".

I won't go into detail on the story, but I want to reiterate how much I enjoyed this book. A true page turner. I will be recommending this to anyone who will listen.
