i can't believe i'm saying this, but i might actually only come back for #4 for stephen. this book is... well, it's fine. it just feels like the novelty of the premise has worn off and the series is being dragged out for as long as possible. i kinda feel like books #2 and #3 could've been condensed into a single novel, a lot of the fluff could've been cut out and it would've been a tighter book overall.

the plot with finding the blackmailer felt so background, despite being the main conflict in this book. there's a lot of other stuff going on in the background that i found a lot more interesting, like stephen's weird behaviour, vero's mysterious background, even javi and the auto shop. finlay is status quo, but she's losing my interest honestly. i'm glad the whole love triangle is over, maybe i'm in the minority but the romance angle got tired after book 1 for me. i liked julian, i even liked nick, but the whole appeal of the love triangle was the heat and the chemistry between the characters. now that she's finally chosen nick, i was expecting at least that to play out since their chemistry has always been good. but three books for a FADE TO BLACK sex scene? girl bffr. i'm over it.

this book is pretty standard FD, but i'm about 50/50 if i'll come back for #4. it's still fun, it's just getting a little predictable now.
