How We Walk: Frantz Fanon and the Politics of the Body by Matthew Beaumont

dark reflective tense slow-paced

3.5

I had seen this recommended on StoryGraph (and possibly TikTok), so when I saw it at an independent bookstore I knew I had to get it 👏🏼

I won’t lie, I’m slightly disappointed. Matthew Beaumont seems to have lifted the entirety of ‘Black Skin, White Masks’ by Fanon and used it in his story (although I will give him props for acknowledging this and acknowledging his whiteness at the beginning of the book).
In saying that, however, I can understand why this is vital and why it’s important to discuss the politics of the body.

I think I’d like to read Fanon’s original works and come back to Beaumont’s writing later on. 3.5 out of 5 stars for me, thank you ✨
