Thinking in Pictures by Temple Grandin

5.0

I think this is a great book, and it's imperfections make it better.

For one thing, it's important to know that this book is two very different books mashed together. There is A LOT of information here on animals and how the meat industry works, and there is A LOT of information on autism and how the author experiences autism, as well as the author's theories around autism, what causes it, how it can or should be treated, etc. Be prepared to read a lot of very through explanations. She does her best to make sure you understand her thought process every step of the way.

To me, all of that is interesting. But at times it leads to chapters or sections that are kind of a rambley disaster because three paragraphs into reading some explanation that started out as one thing and turned into something completely different you might find yourself thinking, "How did we get here and where are we going?"

But I think that's part of what makes this book so fascinating. You're following Temple on a journey through her own mind. And don't let my description turn you off, Temple is a very intelligent articulate person. I found her writing captivating.
