Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories From the Twenty-first Century by Alice Wong

5.0

A collection of essays from people with disabilities. I really appreciate how many different voices were in this book and how many issues and perspectives were highlighted. It was definitely an enlightening read and I think this is a book everyone should read.

I don't think any of the essays were edited and not all of them seem as polished as others. There were definitely essays stronger than others.  However, that's what I found beautiful about this book is that it's not claiming to be the best written book, but rather every essay is a chance to connect to the disability community and to listen to them. Listening to people's experiences humanizes. There are so many strong voices in this collection and every one of them deserves to be heard. (I believe there were a couple of essays that even called attention to this).
