Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

5.0

I've been wanting to read this, and it has sat on my list on GR since 2017. And now, finally, I've finished it!

I love the anime adaptation that I always try to picture the characters as in the anime. I tried to track the similarities, which only gave me headache since the book is waaay more complicated.

Being the eldest seems like a curse. You are unfortunate, a failure, and tend to mess everything. That's what Sophie thought. So when the Witch of the Waste put a spell on her, she went away and hopped into Howl's castle. Howl, unexpectedly, likes chasing after girls and turn them down once they've fallen for him. No wonder there's a rumor that he likes to eat women's heart. This part is a bit disappointed, because as the author said, "Almost every young woman who reads about him wants to marry him." And here I am thinking he only set his eyes on Sophie. Bothered!

Now, the ending. Something we wait for! It's "less" dramatic compare to the anime, but it has its own elements that make it romantic in different way. So sweet I was going to melt, lol. And now I'm wondering, since when has Howl fallen for Sophie?
