Strange Gods by Alison Kimble

Thank you to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

Strange Gods is an unusual YA scifi book that unfortunately wasn't my cup of tea. The story follows Spooky, a teen at a camp for troubled teens, as she becomes tangled in the world of gods and must go on a quest to save the planet. I think the premise is very clever but the scifi elements didn't work for me. There was an element of body horror and just general grossness (for example: mutated attack deer) that was out of my comfort zone.

I felt for Spooky, but I wanted more development for her friends and their dynamic. The ending was also unsatisfying to me. I think the door was left pretty wide open for a sequel and I hope Spooky gets her happy ending, but I doubt I will continue reading.

I think if you're looking for something along the lines of a teen Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this might be just the book for you. However, as I didn't like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy either, this book and I were not on the same page.
