A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross

4.0

The main thing is that I got a notification from the library 4 days ago that the second book (this one) came out and said, out loud, "yay!" So, that's how I went into this.

I burned through it in about 2 days; I stayed up late reading it. Like the first one, the world is small - contained to one island - but that's how it's meant to be. I like the characters, I like the magic system, I like the plot.

To re-iterate my complaint about the first book, I'm docking a star because it's listed as "romantasy" but it's not. It's a fantasy book that technically has a romance - him trying to get back to his wife is the entire thing moving the plot along - but the romance part is almost non-existent. Just because a fantasy book has two characters in love does not make it a romantasy; there's no real love story where two characters slowly fall in love, quiet touching moments, written evolution, explicitly and intensely explored friends to lovers. It's there, but in the background - the focus is the magic, the story, etc.
