Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

I'm always wary of Middle-Book Syndrome in a trilogy (ie NOTHING HAPPENS). However, Siege and Storm does not suffer from this affliction.

It's hard to do this without spoilers, but let's just say SOMEONE SECRET offers to make Alina the queen of Ravka. And her response is that she wants to lead the Second Army instead. WHAT. She kicks so much ass. Also she may be turning a tiny bit evil? But we still love her.

The only downside of this book is Mal. He lives up to the French meaning of his name - hurty and sad. SUCK IT UP, Mal. Stop sulking! Do you see Alina moping? NO, and she has dead animal parts permanently fastened around her.
