The Riviera House by Natasha Lester

5.0

This is my first read by Natasha Lester, and it's such an amazing read! I have to admit, this read is a bit outside of my comfort zone. Hence, I don't really read many historical fiction. But, I've heard nothing but amazing things about Natasha Lester's work and I couldn't wait to read this book! And I can totally understand the hype around her work! Her writing technique is utter perfection; her storytelling skills amazed me! The Riviera House is beautifully written; she detailed the events so well, I was transported to the places in the story. An artistic and historical read that you'll end up falling in love with the storyline.

A read that interconnects from past to present of two heavy hearted and strong women; two generations of two different time periods. I really enjoyed reading both narratives; the transitions from Éliane's to Remy's perspective connected so well, synchronizing the chain of events. Éliane is such a remarkable, admirable and courageous character. The things she did during that period of time was very dangerous and can even be describe as treacherous. I was on a journey as I read both perspectives. I felt Remy's pain, sorrow and grief. The culture, history and art it was so sensational, breathtaking and I couldn't tear myself away from reading. Inspired by a true story, The Riviera House is a read with a bit of betrayal, love, hope, heartbreak and self discovery. All the characters played an important part in this story. As the plot unfolded, it stunned me how all the characters fitted so perfectly together. You will be on a emotional rollercoaster, I certainly was. Overall, if you love reading historical fiction, you need to read this book!

The story begins in the time period of WW II France, navigating from Éliane's perspective. Èliane has a passion for art; she's an art student and is working at the Louvre museum. It does jump back and forth in time, from past to present. Jumping to 2015, there's Remy's perspective. Packing her bags and leaving Australia to her family's private estate in France, Remy is trying to escape the unbearable grief and sorrow; morning the loss of her loved ones. Remy is a vintage fashion curator; she loves vintage clothing. As she spends more time in the villa, Remy begins to unravel the secrets that were kept hidden for so long.
