In the Vanishers' Palace by Aliette de Bodard

3.0

Tons of potential, but really didn’t work for me. As other reviewers have noted, the choice to make the reader feel like they are *in* the perspective of the two narrating characters, in such a short book, leaves you with a bit of whiplash. You end up without much of a sense of the speculative worlds inhabited, the rationales and ethics of the characters, or even quite why they’ve ended up where they are. Instead you get just enough of the “how” to raise more questions. But my god, the concept is incredible - I wish the author had invested some more pages and made some more changes.
