bookwormlukas 's review for:
Mockingjay
by Suzanne Collins
When grading this book I really wished you could incorporate half starts into reviews, as while i consider four stars to be too much, three stars is probably far to little. If there's anything that this novel made me believe it is that, i'm glad they kept it as a trilogy. While reading this entry, I often found myself to be kind of annoyed with Katniss, she had seemed to get a little bit whiney, instead of the strong character she had been in the first two books.
The story as well, without a 'Hunger Games' to anchor it becomes less suspenseful in a way, and almost rushed, as if the author attempted to fit far too many plot points into one novel. The ending also seemed to be a bit forced to me. All through out the novel we understand that it is always Gale that Katniss has loved, yet after the deal with Prim and Gale leaves, Katniss suddenly finds herself with Peeta...almost by default, as if the author needed a 'happy ending' and this was the best alternative.
In comparison to the other books, I also found a huge step up in the violence quota and was wondering how the hell they would adapt this entry into (apparently two) movies since thats hollywood's new shtick...with all it's exploding twelve year olds, it will be interesting to see what makes it into the final cut.
While it may seem like I really didn't like the novel, the above points are merely the weakest aspects in a truly great book/series, and I simply focus a little too much on the negatives while I read.
