Wow. What a finale! In Theft of Sunlight, we are introduced to Rae, a horse girl from the countryside of Menaiya plunging into court politics to rescue a snatched child. To Rae, the snatched and betrayed princess attendant that will stop at nothing to topple the corrupt mages in the kingdom.

The world-building, magic system, court politics and the betrayal. Oh, I absolutely love Rae and her character development. A disabled POC that is a tenacious survivor that knows what she wants. This isn’t a fairytale and justice won’t come to those who wait. Rae learns that she must do bad things to survive but she does not comprise who she is as a person.

The love story between Rae and Bren was beautiful. It was sweet, innocent but so emotionally mature. The conversations about marriage and children was so important for this age group.

This was such a great end to one of my all-time favorite YA fantasy series. This is how you write disabled characters. Intisar Khanani, if she writes it then I’m reading it.

I hope we will get a continuation of Niya’s story in the future (fingers crossed!)

Also, I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Shiromi Arsenio. Her voice enriched the story and made it even more enjoyable.
