Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

That ending was somehow both beautiful and dissatisfying. As in, beautifully written, but kind of not living up to its potential. No spoilers here though!

The rest, however, shall be describes as COMPLETE AND UTTER AWESOMENESS. Baghra is officially the biggest badass ever and I did not see any of these plot twists coming. Like, holy shit, some revelations were UNEXPECTED but somehow still made sense. The writing was wonderful as ever and the pacing perfect—not so fast that you couldn't rest for a second, but fast enough to be exciting and making you unable to put R&R down. I practically FLEW through this book because I NEEDED to know what would happen and it was such an easy read, which is especially admirable since the plot itself I would definitely consider rather complex. Especially the characters. I love all of them so much. ;w;

I'll never completely approve of Alina and Mal's relationship, simply because I think that it would have a greater impact if they were just friends. Fictional friendships are so underrated. ;A; But while I could not stand them together in the first books, especially S&S, they had some cute scenes here and I guess I can live with it.

I'm sad to let this trilogy go, but I don't mourn it as much as I did Shatter Me or The Iron Fey. Not because I liked it less, but because even though I think the ending could have done some things better, it wraps the story up nicely in that everything just feels WHOLE. And with Six of Crows coming, I'll have something to look forward to. o/
