Writing Tools: 55 Essential Strategies for Every Writer by Roy Peter Clark

5.0

This is my new go-to for writing advice.
The way this book is structured and set up is both immaculate and incredibly practical.
The workshops he included were all helpful and informative (though, given that there about 200, I wave not done all of them).
I listened to this on audiobook, and I must say, Neil Kaplan, you are a darling and I love your voice.
I also have a paperback copy that I often consult. I do have a little story about that. I picked up a copy in a bookstore because I was interested in some legitimate writing advice that didn't originate from amateur writers on TikTok (though I still love what I learned from them), and only about a week after I got it, did I realize that I owned a signed copy (something I am VERY happy about). It was the first signed copy I ever got.
Now, let's get back to the actual book. The advice he gives feels very genuine and his writing style feels like a mentor is whispering in your ear in the best way.
The examples he gives feel carefully and lovingly curated and annotated, (over 200 works quoted) that give you a real idea about what he's talking about.
The bits of humor he manages to shoehorns in are greatly appreciated and a lovely addition to an already phenomenal book.
