Unfortunately, I went into this hoping for lighthearted, escapist vibes and a good enemies-to-lovers trope. Instead, I got a righteous librarian who does NOT understand her a citizen, not an amateur sleuth; a very grumpy sheriff (albeit much more reasonable on the investigative front); a small town cast of characters that proved to be more intrusive and obnoxious than cheeky and lovable; and a really pathetic attempt at the "enemies" part of the trope—their disagreements felt forced and I felt zero chemistry between them, aside from the sheriff admiring the librarian's ass for 0.5 seconds. Basically, this was not a pleasant reading experience. Far too many instances of frustration or disbelief to justify soldiering on.
