The Eight by Katherine Neville
3.5

This book felt so long. Covered 6 years or so in the 1700s and one or two in the 1900s, on a parallel quest. They are enmeshed in a global chaos game, it is far-reaching and deadly, and apparently everyone you meat is part of it, at least for our two main characters.

It felt very slow for most of the story - everyone had to meet everyone else one at a time and listen to a long backstory for each of them. Sometimes felt like the backstories were 3 deep. Plus the switching centuries just made all the action interrupted. Loved how she worked in all the famous people from history to create the links for a massive chain of events and locales. Impressive. 2 more uses of the word aspic than I am used to in my mystery novels.
