For myself, it's a five star book. For my students, I'd say it's a 3.5. This book represents a category I'm getting more and more aware of - books written for children that adults want them to like. However, it probably misses the mark for most of my middle school students. There are probably a few girls who are avid readers that would like this book a whole lot, though.
