 I had no idea what to expect going in to this - it had a slower romance burn as promised, the world is really well built and the alchemy plot is beguiling. Ended up really into it, unable to put it down. This is the first in a new series, connected to the writer’s existing series and it speaks to its strength that I still loved it without the prior reading.
